A Glimpse at Mrs. Barnett's Room

When I received my room assignment for my kindergarten room I was very excited because it was the biggest room in the building.  But I soon found out that big is not always better.  The room had been occupied by a teacher that had retired after 30 years of teaching.  And as you all know we seem to gather a lot of stuff as we teach.  So I had a lot of stuff to go through and arrange.  I had to decide what to keep and what needed to go.  I have to say I am not much on saving everything, so there was a lot of purging going on.

Then it was time for a theme and a paint color.  I am really drawn to bright and cheery; and as I looked on Pinterest and the internet I started to be drawn to the polka dots that are so big right now.  And then everything just snowballed from there.  I spent my entire summer painting, cleaning, decorating and organizing.  Here are a few views of my room.

My Math Board

Where I keep my Kleenexs, germ-x, and supplies for students.

My desk area and my card shelf that I dug out of the dumpster at Dollar General and painted pink (love that shelf) works great for my theme books.

My kids cubbies and some storage.

My Guided Reading area.
My seat pockets I sewed over the summer, and I love them.  When my kids finish their work I can check it at their seat and then they place them in their pockets.  Then at the end of the day it is a cinch to load their backpacks.  The idea traveled around our building and I ended up sewing some for two other classrooms.

A Peek at Mrs. Gordon's Room

Last year when I accepted a teaching position at my new school I immediately began thinking about my NEW classroom.  I love to decorate and the thought of designing a new theme for a classroom had me giddy.  I spent countless hours on the internet scouring Pinterest classroom ideas not to mention looking at the amazing School Girl Style website.  I stressed over it for weeks and finally decided on a color scheme.  I am very lucky that my school district allowed me to paint my classroom...and pick any color I wanted!  At first our head of maintenance was a little wary of my color choices which were Benjamin Moore's "Sapphire Ice" and "Ladybug Red".  I have to admit I was a tad nervous myself.  I am beyond blessed to have a wonderful mother and mother-in-law that helped me sand off mickey mouse border that had been there for I am guessing at least ten years and paint the entire room.  After getting paint on the walls the room really started to take shape.  I decided on a "Seussy" theme and began adding lots of polka dot and striped fabrics, a bright red rug, pops of turquoise, orange, red, and lime green and these amazing Dr. Seuss quotes I found here.  My ever so talented dad created the frames that were repurposed from old trim removed from my grandparents home.  On meet the teacher night the look on my new K babies faces made all the hard work and countless summer nights worth it!  They were in love!

A Little About Mrs. Barnett

My name is Chasity Barnett and I am one half of the cup of K. I have taught for 11 years in a variety of grade levels.  I have taught third grade, fourth grade, second grade, title reading and now kindergarten.  I have always loved teaching and I am always up for a challenge.  When the kindergarten position opened up in our building I felt like something was telling me that it was the move I needed to make.  Don’t get me wrong I was so nervous about these little people, but I have fallen head over heels in love with them.

Teaching is a huge part of my life but my family is the biggest part.  I have been married for 11 years to my hard working husband Adam.  He runs his own construction company and gives all his free time to the little farm we live on.

Together we have the three most amazing little ones.    Mason our oldest was born in 2004.  He is in third grade this year and is a super kid.  He is a hard worker and has a great love for learning.  He is very involved in wrestling and has made amazing accomplishments this year at it.  He started his own museum when he was about 5 years old and has been featured in our local paper.

Kalli is our only daughter and was born in 2007. She is in kindergarten this year in Mrs. Gordon’s class.  She is our little diva.  She already worries her dad with her need for fashion and control.  She loves her ribbons and bows but is not afraid to put on her mud boots and spend the day helping her dad on the farm.

Last but not least is our Marshal.  He was born in 2010.  He gave us a little scare from the start, but after a couple weeks in ICU he was ready to go.  He is two years old and is full of energy.  We never have a dull moment when he is around.

This gives you a little glimpse of what keeps me so busy.

A Little About Mrs. Gordon

Greetings!  My name is Jill Gordon and I am the co-creator of Cup of K.  I have been in the teaching biz for nine years and can honestly say that in those nine years very few days have ever felt like “work”.  I love my profession and couldnt imagine doing anything different.  When Im not at school with my K babies I am at home with my own babies.

I am mommy to three amazing little people.  The one that gave me the title of mommy arrived in July of 2006.  Avery Kate came into this world an 8 pound 4 oz. bundle of pink perfection.  From that day forward she has never ceased to amaze me.  She is smart, funny, a tad dramatic, and the best big sister to her baby sister and brother.

In August 2008, a beautiful baby girl with a head full of hair and the biggest brown eyes in the world made her grand entrance and forever changed the dynamic of the Gordon House.  Spencer Grace, or Roo, as we affectionately call her, is the funniest, sweetest, most adorable little ball of fire youll ever meet.  God certainly broke the mold when he made her!

With my last addition I had to step out of my comfort zone of pink, bows, tutus, and lip gloss and add a little blue, a little football, and a whole lot of boy!  Jackson Alexander arrived in April of last year and from the moment my eyes met his I was hooked.  What is it between a mother and her son?  I never got it until now.  What I wouldnt do for that handsome little man.

Those perfect little kiddos wouldn’t quite be possible without my husband Jake.  Jake and I were high school sweethearts and have been married almost 11 years.  I am not sure what I would do without him.  After all this time together he still makes me laugh and I still make him smile, so I guess were doing something right.

As for myself I keep busy with my family, kindergartners, master’s classes, and maintaining a very hectic schedule.  Its a crazy ride, but I am enjoying every minute of it.  If I do have some spare time I love to watch movies, browse Pinterest for teaching or home decorating ideas, visit with friends, or relax on my porch with a cup of coffee.
